ABOUT ME
Hello! I'm Ramsey Ferrer, an applied linguist investigating the nuances of language(s) in diverse aviation settings where multicultural and multilingual speakers come in contact. My research delves into the ways language(s) is used in the field of aviation. I research aviation English in general and aeronautical English, in particular, through various methodologies. Specifically, I am interested in the intersection between applied corpus linguistics and sociolinguistics and how this offers an innovative theoretical and methodological framework for a corpus-based sociolinguistic study in aviation contexts.
Currently, I am an Associate Professor of aviation English in the Aviation Communication Department of the Institute of Liberal Arts and Sciences at the Philippine State College of Aeronautics, Pasay City, the Philippines. I first pursued my Bachelor's degree in Secondary Education in English (cum laude) at Philippine Normal University and took a Master's degree in Teaching English Language at De La Salle University in the Philippines, where I am writing my dissertation for a Doctor's degree of Philosophy in Applied Linguistics. My dissertation explores a corpus-based sociolinguistic investigation of Filipino aviation personnel's (e.g., pilot, controller) communication.
